Title: Communicating with Your Kids, Part 1

As you listen, select, copy, and paste the following outline:

Diagnosis

Early communication is based on 3 things:

1.  Simple

2.  Quick

3.  Control

-as the kids grow older, things begin to change

Later communication is a gradual loss of those 3 things:

          Simple becomes complex          

          Quick becomes slow

          Control is lost

-your communication worked when they were young, but it’s not working now

Your kids are changing but your communication style is not

-kids are changing but we are not changing our style
* here’s what happens when you don’t make the change

1.  kids will get hurt

2.  Kids will develop permanent small talk

You realize it’s not working but you use it even more!

You conclude that it’s all your kids’ fault

-well, if it doesn’t work, then why are we using it?
-the main reason is that we keep things from the past because we are comfortable with them
