Occasion: End of the year sermon
Title: Looking Back and Looking Forward
Main Scripture: 2 Corinthians 2:12-16
Main Topics: God's leading, Paul's defense of his ministry, "Triumphal Procession"
our prespective of our spiritual journey yesterday, today and tomorrow.
As you listen, select, copy, and paste the following outline:
-it is important to understand the situational background of this passage
-in our text for today, Paul looks back on his itinerary from Troas to Macedonia
-now, Troas is a sea port on the Aegean Sea in western Asian minor
-10 miles from the famous city of Troy from which Troas got its name
-but surprisingly, Paul (v.13) “still had no peace of mind”
….initial reading of this passage seems to indicate that Paul has fallen
right into their hands
-initially, it may appear to others, that his plans are haphazard or random
-for not only is there a sudden shift to praising God, there is also a sudden shift from his situationto OUR situation
-it’s like Paul is saying: “I have my plans and you have your plans. But when it comes to serving God, He is the one who leads the way
Proverbs 16:9
In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps
“triumphal procession”
-Romans 16 speaks of God crushing Satan
-Colossian 2 speaks of how God disarmed the powers and authorities and made public spectacle of them….. “triumphing over them….”
-Matthew 16 declares that God will build His church
Romans 8 describes us a “co-conquerors”
-such is the confidence of Paul
